A Lemonade Stand with a Dream: Leighlah’s Lemonade Lounge
May 6, 2026What started with a wobbly batch of birthday macarons in 2017 has grown into one of Lafayette’s most charming dessert destinations.
Heather Degeyter, owner of Bonne Vie Macarons, began baking French macarons in her home kitchen before quickly building a loyal following through word-of-mouth and social media. By 2018, she opened her first storefront, creating a feminine and whimsical space filled with natural light, fresh flowers, and beautifully displayed desserts.
Along the way, Heather turned to the LSBDC at UL Lafayette for support—first attending a marketing workshop and later working one-on-one with consultants on strategic planning, marketing, and loan package development. With LSBDC guidance and accountability, she secured financing, developed a strategic growth plan, and successfully transitioned into a new downtown Lafayette location in 2025.
Today, Bonne Vie Macarons is known for its creative small-batch desserts and playful themes—from Golden Girls and Taylor Swift to Harry Potter—paired with Heather’s signature photography and artistic presentation. The new location also houses Book Club & Co., Louisiana’s first romance-only bookstore, creating a unique destination for sweets, books, and community.
Reflecting on her journey, Heather credits the LSBDC for helping her navigate every stage of growth:
“They’ve helped me through every season of business ownership—from opening my first storefront to relaunching after a major move. The LSBDC has truly been a lifeline for our business.”
